[Αντώνης Αντωνίου]
I move between disciplines* to create around the ways we observe, understand and try to codify the worlds around us. I am profoundly interested in how we visually translate our environments through systems and symbols, and how these interweave memory and meaning.
My work as editor and visual researcher includes a bestselling book on contemporary pictorial cartography and a compendium chronicling Manhattan through the visual language of the diagram.
I am moved by the potentials of the editorial act to generate connections and expand definitions. As an artist-in-residence at Santa Mònica Arts Centre I was part of a mediation and experimentation collective, thinking and making around editorial practices, cultivating polyphonies in the form of a shelf , a mobile library, or an illustrated glossary.
My fieldwork involves a daily practice of looking, gathering and documenting. In my path, some themes that persist are pictorial translations, citational collages, and cartographic languages.
Please do reach out for collaborations, or just to say hi.
*In no particular order, these disciplines include design, architecture, visual research, curatorial, archival and editorial practices, mediation, and writing.
